The Ray Price Race Team is excited to announce that the weekend of August 18 and 19 they had another successful weekend. During the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (CMDRA) 2012 Edition of the Summer Nationals at Mission Raceway Park, Mission Canada, in back to back races the team takes the win and landed the number one qualifying position!

It’s a long haul to the Western side of Canada but the 1,000 horsepower Top Fuel Nitro Harley drag bike (Akea Express), piloted by Tommy Grimes, put on another great show. Qualifying in the number one spot with a 6.422 ET at 226.41 mph, is off to a great start.

During elimination round one, Grimes runs an impressive 6.504 ET at 216.24 mph and clinches a position in the semi-finals. Jumping right into the semi’s the Ray Price Race Team wasn’t ready to call it a day running a 6.538 ET at 219.45 mph to move them into the finals.

Paired with Canadian Damian Cownden, Cownden redlights which gives Grimes the win but Tommy Grimes ran a very impressive pass. The Akea Express is off of the line with a 0.055 light, running a 6.522 ET at 213.87 mph.

In Woodburn Oregon, August 25th and 26th the Top Fuel field was impressive. With thirteen bikes rallying for the eight open positions, the Akea Express lands the number three qualifying position.

“We were faced with some transmission issues, something we just couldn’t overcome” said Ray Price, “so we gave it our all but it just wasn’t enough.”

Tommy Grimes qualifying rounds are as follows: Q1 6.681 ET at 210.32 mph, Q2 6.674 ET at 212.61 mph, Q3 6.712 ET at 211.96 mph and Q4 6.567 ET at 212.76 mph.

As they moved into round one eliminations, the Ray Price Race Team, still plagued by their continuing transmission problems had hoped for a better outcome but unable to pull off the win with a run of 6.745 ET at 210.97 mph.

Look for the Akea Expess / Ray Price Race team in Numidia PA where they will compete in the AHDRA Liberty Nitro Nationals September 8 and 9, 2012.
